Dental Implants

The ideal solution to replacing teeth and preventing them from moving out of position.

Short description:

Dental implants are a predictable way to replace the root portion of a missing natural tooth. They are surgically placed in your jawbone and they will support a crown, bridge or denture to replace one or more missing teeth. They can provide a highly aesthetic solution to replacing teeth, as well as preventing the remaining teeth from drifting or moving out of position, which can affect your bite and ability to keep the teeth clean. They are often the perfect solution for those wanting to improve the appearance of a gappy smile.

  • Consultation appointment to discuss your needs, desired outcome and what are the best options to enhance your smile. Followed by a CT Scan and moulds of your teeth.

  • Local anaesthetic is given to numb your mouth and gums.
  • A small cut is made on the gums to expose the bone underneath.
  • A titanium screw is placed in the jaw.
  • Stitches are then used to close incisions made.
  • Review is conducted 3-6 months later and a new mould is taken.
  • Final implant crown is fitted.

  • Look and feel like real teeth.
  • Fixed option (does not move like a denture would and no need to take it out at night).
  • Appearance: Crown of the implant is made to match the adjacent teeth.
  • Can eat any foods you like without worrying.

  • Dental implants are titanium posts that are tightly fitted into the jaw bone.
  • Once the implant has integrated with the bone, a crown will then be fitted onto the titanium post. Where there are multiple missing teeth, implants can be placed to hold bridges or support dentures in place.
  • While most cases involve a wait of a few months between the surgical placement of an implant and the fitting of the final crown, on occasion if the implant is stable it may be possible for the crown to be fitted sooner.
  • Sometimes it may be necessary to wear a temporary denture for cosmetic reasons. For patients who already have a full set of dentures, they're usually able to keep wearing them until the implants are healed.

* Some patients also need a bone graft. This is usually made of artificial material and placed at the same time of the surgery. It is for patients who do not have enough bone to support an implant and helps make the treatment more successful. Also, patients missing all of their teeth can have a procedure called all on 4. Basically 2 implants are placed on the top jaw and 2 on the bottom and then they have a bridge made by the technician that fits over those 2 implants. This is often called teeth in a day, as the technician will make a temporary bridge to go over those implants straight after the surgery.

  • Good oral hygiene at home and regular visits to the hygienist as implants need to be looked after the same way our teeth do.
